I spent 37 years working in primary schools in Greater Manchester, all of which served deprived catchments and retired as the head teacher of a large, multi-cultural school in Hyde. I now have more time to pursue outdoor pursuits and natural history and also enjoy theatre, live music and travel.

I have, during my 37 years in education, had the pleasure of working with many exceptional people dedicated to improving the life chances of young people, tackling inequality and fighting for social justice. They have shaped my values and thinking in profound ways. It is a privilege now to be a member of the Enquire Learning Trust. I was educated at Southampton University (BSc), Oxford University (PGCE) and Cambridge University (MEd); was a Secondary Headteacher in East Sussex for 4 yrs; and am now the Executive Director at the Harris Institute and a Regional Principal at the National Institute of Teaching.
